New Worlds From Old ………new works ………Paula
Payne …November 2015
These works have emerged from a genuine
love of painting, and a will to investigate evocative color fields and
atmospheres that relate to landscapes and geography from an emotive
perspective.
I often think about the world and how many different
ways we as humans live on the same planet. With ongoing events and mass media,
we observe the effects of globalization. I find myself feeling empathy for the
planet and many of those who inhabit it in this time.
Without even trying my mind and brush
respond to stories and images of ice melts, and the many humans who at this
time seem to be looking for a place to belong often in response to untenable
situations.
Strange that these thoughts when united with
the tenderness of paint bring forth aesthetic and delicate imagery that trace
and track ideas of long silent walks on the path to New Worlds. Floating rafts
and ice formations, jewel like, delicate melting, express experiences of uncertainty
and change into delicate imagery.
The twin peaks of my imagery describes a
continuum of human choices that flux between binary opposites as the human
condition. I contemplate on a time when it is possible to define human rights
in favor of those in need. Paint and thoughts attempt to reach out in a
ritualized manner to come to terms with the world at large and share narratives
of our time.
It is my hope that with a delicate touch
and sensitivity these works express these thoughts and observations on some
level.
